A Long Time
It’s been a long time since I’ve added anything to this blog - so sorry. It’s been hectic here, but I’m back to recording and writing so it’s full steam ahead!
Since the last entry in February, I’ve been working with Garageband symphonic loops and Anthony’s Mark of the Unicorn Symphonic Samples (or something like that). Anyway, the results are very interesting, and as the album progresses it gets darker and more dramatic.
I’ve completely reworked “Confrontation and Destiny,” and it’s much more dramatic and powerful now. Billy and Chris are working on this one and adding drums and percussion to it.
I’ve added a song entitled, “Candles on the Ocean,” which is about the event that occurs after the typhoon hits the Pequod and St. Elmo’s fire takes hold of the three masts of the ship. It’s actually become a rather “spiritual” piece. Very atmospheric. Pete had some interesting comments:
“hey Tony...it's Pete. This, perhaps, is the single most daring thing I think I've ever heard you do!!! VERY gospel-like regardless of how intentional or unintentional that was on your part. I'm not altogether sure what I think of it as a song...this writing is after the second listen and, to be honest, I was so taken aback by it stylistically that I'm not even sure what I actually thought of it. But different and very ear catching from the perspective of being familiar with your other material.”
Well, it is turning out to be a very eclectic album, and it’s not deliberate. For some reason, the music is taking on a life of its own. Tonight I will be re-doing the vocal on “Confrontation and Destiny.” We’ll see how that goes.
Also, I’ve written the basic tracks for a song I’m calling, “On the Sea”, which is about the first whale that the crew kills. Very sad, but it’s part of the story - hey - I didn’t write it!
Stay tuned,
Tony
